Beautiful Riad, great location.
I’m so fortunate to have found this place a night prior to arriving to Fez. My little sister has a physical limitation due to her ankle surgery so we asked for accommodations on the ground floor. The hotel staff immediately responded to my request and updated our booking. Due to extenuating circumstances with our car rental we arrived very late. We were so upset from the loss of the whole day that when we arrived to Hotel Riad, we were ready to turn in and go to sleep. Mohammed, the gentleman in charge of the hotel greeted us and offered mint tea and a large water bottle. Here’s the part that made us quietly weep: he said “all the women cooks went home for the night but they prepared a hot plate for you guys…”
When he brought out the food… it felt like a gift from heaven. We hadn’t ate anything all day and I promise you that it was the best meal we had in three/four days. Fruit bowls, fresh bread, and a gorgeous tomato base sauce smothered in egg and cheese. This is when I knew why this hotel holds such high reviews. When we settle in to our room… wow! Spectacular. We felt like it was a luxury suite. In the morning, we were served a precious continental breakfast. Mohammed was so helpful in guiding us with a map to the short walking distance to the places of interest. On top of that, they held our luggage and our car rental until our return. Beautiful experience. We will definitely come back and stay longer. One night in Hotel Riad Layalina does not suffice!
So kind and welcoming. When we got to fez our driver did not want to drive us to the riad, but then the guy (that I sadly can’t remember the name of) came to where we where an picked us up. Very usefull information about fes, and possibility to use the facilities after check out.
Really nice riad on the edge of the medina. The room is a lot nicer than the pictures make it appear and the staff, particularly Mohammed, is wonderful! Highly recommend.
The Place was very easy to find with the directions they gave us. Once there, the Riad is beautiful and the room very clean and comfortable. It also has air conditioner which was a major plus for us! The location was excellent as well and beautiful Terrace and delicious breakfast!
As two women travellers, we felt safe and comforted coming home here after a busy day in the Medina. The space was perfect and we enjoyed reading our books with a bowl of fruit in the common areas. From the terrace, the view of the Medina was spectacular. The breakfasts were amazing as well and staff were always present if you needed something. Could not recommend this place enough!
The perfect riad for our time in Fes. They welcomed us with a beautiful welcome meal and the breakfasts were delicious and very generous. The pool and bedrooms were perfectly clean. I wish we got to stay another night!
Riad Layalina Fez is a wonderful riad in a great location with friendly staff and a delicious complimentary breakfast. Nice pool in the courtyard which provided a welcome escape from the Moroccan Summer sun. We’d highly recommend for anyone visiting this ancient city.
Our favorite Riad eXperience in our entire road trip in Morocco. Outstanding hospitality and lovely lovely place!
We stayed here for one night and were very pleasantly surprised. After a stressful stay in another riad in the middle of the medina seven years ago we were looking for a place which would guarantee less hassle – and that’s exactly what we found at Riad Layalina. We chose this accommodation specifically because of its private parking, an invaluable asset which allowed for getting in and out very easy.
While travelling towards Fes in our rental car, we tried to make a reservation for the last available room via TripAdvisor, but the site somehow did not manage to book with the online discount which was advertised. So we tried our luck, just showed up without any reservation and asked. The friendly manager Bilal had a quick phone call with the owner and confirmed that we could stay for the advertised price. We were then given the full welcome treatment which others already described in detail: a bottle of cool water, a delicious fruit salad and a mint tea, all of this served in their breathtakingly beautiful courtyard. While we were indulging in these treats our room was prepared and our luggage was taken care of.
The room itself was not the biggest, yet very cozy and spotlessly clean with a comfortable bed, a safe and a good working a/c. The only small downside was that the bathroom was not en suite but on the other side of the staircase. It had no windows and felt a little bit ‘cave-like’, especially with high humidity after showering. The wifi in our room had a terrific speed (faster than at home) while the bathroom came without proper signal.
Due to the riad being fully booked it could get somewhat noisy at times, but not to the extent that it would have tarnished our stay. It’s just what you should expect when staying in an older building in riad style. Keep in mind that these accommodations were once meant to be family homes rather than hotels.
On the rooftop terrace with its sweeping views over the medina and the surrounding hills we got a good map and a brief introduction to Fes by Bilal. This was very appreciated, although not much had changed since our last visit in 2012. But it’s always reassuring to get some advice and useful hints by locals.
We had a fantastic afternoon roaming the medina, came back to see the sunset from the rooftop and then went off to enjoy the medina again, this time with the very special evening atmosphere and even a free concert at the Fes Festival of World Sacred Music. The location of the riad, not far from the Blue Gate, guaranteed easy accessibility of the medina and souk.
The next morning, after a good night’s sleep, Bilal and his colleague served an excellent breakfast in the picturesque courtyard setting. After we had settled our bill (which was organized by Bilal in the most correct way) the staff brought the luggage to our car and waved us goodbye. As hard as it was to leave this beautiful and accommodating place after just one night, it’s good to know that we have found the perfect spot to come back to whenever Fes is on our travel list again.
