09/25/2014 Charming Riad

After a long journey and a short walk down a narrow alley, we came to our Riad Layalina. Leaving the alley behind we entered into this very charming hotel. The host offered us mint tea, cookies, and bottled water. It was like an oasis!

The hotel is small and charming, and filled with numerous details, such as the intricate carvings on the walls and ceilings, the Persian carpets on the floor, the Moroccan lamps, the windows with shutters on the inside that reveal stained glassed windows that can also open to let in fresh air. It was very enchanting.

For breakfast we were served fried eggs, some type of Moroccan bread with honey, figs, mint tea, and other items that escape me.

Radwan and the other members of the staff worked very hard to make our stay enjoyable.

The hotel was a very short walk to the Medina.

This riad is absolutely stunning! A beautiful courtyard, very well maintained, and nice and cool in the heat everywhere inside. Very traditional look with the mosaic tiles and painted glass windows, furniture and even the bathroom made me feel like being in a hammam. Even the small pool inside is made in a way that it blends in perfectly. It is just at the corner of the medina, a few minutes walk away from the hustle and bustle but it is quiet. It has a gated car park which was handy for us. We only had breakfast there but it was plentiful and delicious. And it has a roof terrace with a great view! We stayed 2 nights and it was a pleasure to get back to the riad every evening. Highly recommended!

08/11/2014 A wonderful REAL Riad in Fez Medina

This is a great place to stay for a real Riad experience – this is a guniune old Riad, very well preserved, just on the edge of Fes Medina, with a car park and easy access from the main road. The architecture and quality of the decorations in this old riad is fantastic, and it is good value for money. The rooms are small, because they are the original Riad rooms, but very cosy.

However, you will spend little time in the room, as this riad has a magnificent coutyard, shady and cool, with a small poll you can dip in (too small for a real swim). There is also a really good, large roof top terrace, which always has some shade. The food here is good (if expensive compared to the medina), and you get a free tomato and egg tagine and mint tea on arrival.

It is well positioned for expeloring the medina, close to the main entrance at the blue gate where there are more tourist-friendly restaurants, but also for exploring deeper into the medina, my favourite place in Morocco. It is about a 20 minute walk through the lanes to the central madrassa and the dyeing pits, a must see in Fez.

07/15/2014 Charming and beautifully moroccan

This Riad was easily as charming and beautifully decorated as many of the madrassas or mosques in Fes. On a hot afternoon we were blissfully happy to spend time by the pool gazing up at the surrounding building and drinking moroccan tea prepared by the helpful staff. They were kind enough to meet us on arrival with tea, sweets and traditional lunch and from then on nothing was too much trouble.

The mattresses were a little hard for our liking but rooms were otherwise very well done.

Location is very convenient for exploring the old city and markets.

07/14/2014 Lovely Riad in a great position

We very much enjoyed our recent stay in Riad Layalina. Jerome was very helpful during the booking process, we were met at the train station and taken to the Riad. To our great surprise and delight we were then given a delicious tagine, water and mint tea, as it was quite late at night. We weren’t charged for this and we felt that this was a really nice touch and meant that we didn’t have to start wandering around Fes trying to find somewhere to eat after a long journey. Our rooms were nice although. Great aircon, nice breakfasts and charming staff made for a good stay. The riad is very traditional, close to the main street and with a lovely roof terrace and refreshing pool too. Highly recommended.

07/02/2014 A Great Choice

Thanks to Said, Simon, and the whole Layalina staff for a very nice 4 night stay. My wife, adult son, and I completely enjoyed our time there. It’s a beautiful, comfortable, accessible home base right next to the action. I’ll miss my afternoon pool plunges, as well as your thoughtful kindness. A great place!

06/30/2014 Tranquil haven in the heart of Fes

Layalina Fes MarocThis riad is a real Gem. We arrived after a 3 hour car trip to be greeted at the car and escourted from the streets of Fes into this most beautiful courtyard where are our luggage was put to one side and we were provided with some wonderful mint team and homemade Moroccan biscuits. It didn’t stop there, as it was around lunch time we were then brought a complementary lunch. Each of us had a steaming hot fresh tomato tagine placed in front of us, and after we had enjoyed our lovely meal we were then showed to our rooms.

The Riad is beautiful and well kept and all the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.

06/27/2014 A welcoming riad

As we arrived, without even asking our names we have been welcomed in the wonderful patio with Moroccan tea and, after a while, with a delicious tajine. Only once rested from the traveling and filled with food, they started with the formalities.

Staff is kind and ready to help.

Location is very good: just on the border of the old Medina, and few steps away from all the places you want to be.
Rooms are (obviously) in Arabic style; maybe not always functioning, but clean and beautiful, with a thick hard mattress that is a treat to sleep on.
The patio (cannot avoid repeating it) with its little pool and fountain and plants and tiles is a pleasure for the soul, and when it’s not hot (early morning or sunset) the roof-terrace offers additional pleasures for the eye.
